Sawalmem is more than a nonprofit—it’s our sacred responsibility. Founded by the Winnemem Wintu Tribe, we operate as a 501(c)(3) unincorporated association with church status to protect and revitalize our ancestral homelands. “Sawalmem” means “sacred water,” tying us to Bulliyuum Puyuuk (Mt. Shasta) and the McCloud River watershed. By reclaiming land, restoring salmon populations, and sharing Indigenous knowledge, we renew the vital bond between people, nature, and spirit. Every effort honors centuries of stewardship, ceremony, and prayer. Join us in safeguarding these sacred places so they can thrive for future generations—and flow freely once again.
